馬總統在哈佛座談時，也就兩岸與亞洲局勢交互意見。據了解，會中馬總統的恩師、紐約大學教授孔傑榮應邀出席，並大力讚揚馬總統所提東海與南海和平倡議，認為馬總統應被提名諾貝爾獎。
與會者也說，馬總統也向美國說明，過去7年來台灣對大陸出口依賴沒有增加，反而減少1個百分點，同期間台灣對東協出口依賴卻從14％，上升到19％，顯見馬政府分散出口市場的策略奏效。馬總統首次以現任總統身分重返母校哈佛大學引起旋風，除了在華人街僑胞盛大空前歡迎外，媒體在哈佛校園上演追逐戰也引發當地民眾注意，紛紛拿起手機捕捉畫面。
適逢周末，哈佛校園充滿了觀光客導覽團，大家都是慢慢走、拍照欣賞校園美景。面對突如其來的大批人馬，連跑帶拍巨大聲響引發所有人注意，紛紛詢問是誰的同時，也拿起手機拍照。
